Persian carpets and cathedrals
“I was born to nomadic parents, two ardent learners and collectors of beautiful things. We frequently moved cities and houses but our Persian carpets were constant companions, anchoring us across continents. On weekends, my parents would take us to museums and cathedrals to admire and explore paintings, frescoes and mosaics.
These wall and floor decorations, much like our cherished carpets at home, were often skillfully framed with garlands or architectural elements and I marvelled at how much they enhanced and dramatized the main subject. Rich with detail and symbolism, these artworks conveyed so much information and countless stories for us to uncover!
This profound appreciation for ornament, symmetry and storytelling led me first to architecture and then to illustration, in a mission to reframe our world in color and light.”
